The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team believes it has solved one of the most gruesome murders of the year.

Tomorrow, police will hold a news conference at RCMP headquarters in Surrey after a man was charged in the death of 17-year-old Serena Vermeersch.

She disappeared after getting off a bus around 8 p.m. on September 15.

Her body was found the following day in the 14600 block of 66th Avenue in Surrey.

At the time, police told the media that they suspected she was killed by a stranger, causing alarm across the region.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team won't reveal the accused man's identity, saying there's a publication ban in place.

I'm so sick of these dangerous offenders being released into unsuspecting neighborhoods. It doesn't matter if the public is notified or not because we will memorize the offender's face and within a few hours or days, we will forget. Therefore these monsters walk freely without being noticed. Even I as a 15 year old child was approached by a dangerous offender who was released on parole from sexually assaulting three teens. He wanted me to be his next victim but kept a safe distance and he gave up. A month later this monster abducted, raped, murdered an eleven year old girl. I highly doubt the parole board would release these monsters if they were going to be living in their neighborhood, I'd put money down on that. The parole board has blood on their hands yet they sleep like babies. I mean it's not their children in danger so why should they care? We don't have a justice system in Canada, it's just a legal system because are courts are a pathetic joke! RIP Princess, you were not only a victim of this monster, you were a victim of Canada's Parole Board and if your family can sue, I hope they do and win. However, they'll never truly win because you're their precious angel and they cannot wrap their arms around you no longer, just in their heart.

Your story is extremely harrowing and I can't imagine what it would have been like to experience it. Good god.

However, I am posting to say that this particular criminal, Cassie, was not released by the Parole Board. He did his complete sentence and was released on terms and conditions. In hindsight, he should have been on a monitor but that's not Parole Board's call, they didn't let him out.
