Outdoor gear and clothing companies Patagonia and MEC have developed a stronger bond with customers over the years by giving one percent of their sales to environmental organizations.

Now, a local developer is applying a similar model to the home-building sector.

Marcon has announced that it will be donating a portion of each home it sells in a Lynn Valley project called Mill House to help fund North Shore Rescue.

The funds will go toward a corporate donation to the Tim Jones Legacy Fund, which is named after the longtime leader of group of volunteers who go into the mountains to find lost hikers, skiers, and snowboarders.

"Tim Jones dedicated his life to helping others in need," Marcon president Marco Paolella said in a news release. "He was the backbone of NSR and we want to help ensure his lifelong work continues and support the volunteers of NSR because we are so grateful for the lifesaving work they perform."

Marcon will provide further details at an event in January that will be held to coincide with the first anniversary of Jones's death.
