In a ceremony on Parliament Hill this morning (July 21), Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Rosie MacLennan will serve as Canada’s flag bearer for the Rio 2016 Olympics.

MacLennan hails from King City, Ontario, and is an accomplished trampoline gymnast. She was the only Canadian athlete to take home the gold at the London 2012 Olympics, winning the top prize in the individual trampoline event.

She also nabbed the gold medal at the 2011 Pan American Games and second place at the 2011 Trampoline World Championships. She will attempt to defend her title in the individual trampoline event in Rio de Janeiro.

“Standing here, going into my third Games, I am filled with so much pride and so much gratitude that words can’t even begin to describe it,” the 27-year-old athlete told spectators at Parliament Hill.

MacLennan will lead Team Canada in the opening ceremony, which will air live on the CBC on August 5 at 4 p.m. Pacific Time.

The Rio 2016 Olympics take place from August 5 to 21.
