Jian Ghomeshi under criminal investigation, according to CBC and Toronto Star

Yesterday, Toronto police Chief Bill Blair said that his police force would not investigate former CBC broadcaster Jian Ghomeshi in the absence of any complaints.

Now, CBC News and the Toronto Star are reporting that Toronto police have launched a criminal probe into the former host of Q after two women filed complaints against him.

Ghomeshi has denied any wrongdoing in two statements on his Facebook account.

Meanwhile, Toronto Star reporter Kevin Donovan says that Ghomeshi provided CBC management with video evidence that consensual sex can cause bruising.

"He provided, according to our sources, video evidence of this," Donovan said on a video on the newspaper's website. "We have not seen the videos, but we understand there's more than one."

The videos were linked to the CBC's decision to fire Ghomeshi, according to Donovan, who didn't reveal his source.

CBC president and CEO Hubert Lacroix issued a public statement to Canadians about the Ghomeshi situation.

"I empathize with those who have felt powerless to speak out, or who have tried to speak out and felt ignored," Lacroix said. "As the father of two young daughters, I share your frustration."
