One of Vancouver's best known landmarks has been put on the block.

Grouse Mountain Resorts Ltd. has been in the control of the McLaughlin family since 1974.

The company operates the North Vancouver ski and snowboarding hill along with a wildlife refuge and Altitudes Bistro at what's popularly known as the Peak of Vancouver.

Many events take place there throughout the year, including this Saturday's (September 24) Grouse Grind Mountain Run, snowshoeing nights, and the winter Jam over the City Instagram prize contest.

Since 1990, the company has invested $25 million in various upgrades on its 485-hectare site.

The Grouse Grind is on land owned by Metro Vancouver.

The announcement of a looming sale came shortly after U.S.-based Vail Resorts announced that it's buying Whistler Blackcomb's operations for $1.4 billion.
