Burnaby RCMP seek person of interest in search for missing Japanese student Natsumi Kogawa

      Burnaby RCMP are asking for the public's help in identifying a person seen with a female Japanese student before she went missing.

      Natsumi Kogawa, a 29-year-old ESL student, was last seen in Burnaby on September 7. She was reported missing on September 12.

      She is Asian, 4'11" tall, with a slim build (about 100 lbs., long hair, and brown eyes. She may be carrying a black backpack.

      Today (September 27), Burnaby RCMP obtained video surveillance footage taken on September 8 at 1:27 p.m. near Seymour Street and Hastings Street in Vancouver.

      Two still images from the video were released in the hope that the man seen with Kogawa can be identified and contacted by investigators.

      The man seen with Kogawa is described as a Caucasian male, about 30 years old with a medium height, slim build, light-coloured hair, a dark jacket, blue jeans, running shoes, a baseball cap, a black gym bag with red handles, and a dark-coloured duffle-style backpack.

      Anyone who is able to identify this man or provide any information in locating him is asked to contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-294-7922 and request tip line extension 5164, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

      Meanwhile, a Facebook page has been set up to coordinate efforts to locate Kogawa.

      CTV News reported that she had messaged a friend on the morning of September 8 to meet with a friend later that day. She did not show up to meet her friend and has not been responding to calls or text messages from friends.
