Ravi Kahlon has experienced more than a few bruises as a champion field hockey player.

Now, he's ready for the chippier game of B.C. politics.

Today, Kahlon announced that he's going to be the NDP candidate in Delta North, which is a swing seat currently held by B.C. Liberal Scott Hamilton.

Born and raised in Victoria, Kahlon has been the NDP caucus director of stakeholder relations for six years. Before that he worked in the banking industry.

But in North Delta, he's best known for his exploits on the pitch. He represented his country in two Olympic Games, and won a gold medal with the Canadian team in the 2007 Pan American Games.

In 2013, Kahlon became a member of the Delta Sports Hall of Fame.
