5 things that might put a smile on the faces of those who can't stand Donald Trump

Progressives around the world are wondering what the hell is wrong with the American people after they elected a crypto-fascist as their next president. But fear not, there just might still be hope on the horizon. Here are five reasons why:

      1. The Trump Foundation

New York attorney general Eric T. Schneiderman's office is conducting an investigation into whether Donald Trump's nonprofit foundation broke state laws. According to a New York Times report in September, Trump's campaign has dismissed Schneiderman as a "partisan hack".

      2. Trump University

Schneiderman's office filed a lawsuit earlier this year in connection with Trump University, calling it a "fraud from top to bottom" in an interview with CNN. For more on Trump University, see this column in the Los Angeles Times.

      3. Jeff Bezos

The Washington Post, which is owned by Amazon.com billionaire Jeff Bezos, doesn't show any sign of backing off on its hard-hitting coverage of Trump. The morning after Trump's victory in the U.S. presidential election, one headline read: "Trump's conflicts of interest are without precedent in American presidential history". The drip drip drip of conflict-of-interest stories has the potential to undermine his presidency over time, particularly if the Democrats stage a comeback in the midterm elections and are able to force investigations.

      4. Right wing Trump haters

Many conservative media commentators loathe Trump, which wasn't the case with the last Republican president, George W. Bush. David Frum, Bill Kristol, George Will, and Glenn Beck have all expressed their distaste for the billionaire developer. The first moment Trump stumbles, he's not going to have as many right wingers in his corner as Bush had.

      5. A warming planet

Climate change is inevitable. Trump simply doesn't get it. And as more old people die and more young people become voters, it will increasingly become Trump's political albatross, particularly as extreme weather events continue to pound the United States. Canada went through this with former prime minister Stephen Harper, who never took climate change seriously, which ultimately led to his political downfall. There's no reason to think that a similar fate won't befall Trump.

That said, there's no room for complacency. If there's any doubt about that, check out the tweet below from filmmaker Michael Moore.
