B.C. NDP Leader John Horgan issued the following statement today:

"Today we celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and the ten-year anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

“Many British Columbians live with disabilities, both visible and invisible. While we have made some progress in making our communities more welcoming and accessible for people with disabilities, we still have a long way to go.

“I am particularly saddened that thousands of people with disabilities in British Columbia lost their access to transit this year because of Christy Clark’s bus pass clawback.

“The fact that many people with disabilities felt forced to give up their mobility in order to afford basics like food is wrong. That’s not the life of dignity deserved by our family members, friends, neighbours and community members who live with disabilities.

“We live in a rich province, a province made richer by the contributions of people with disabilities. We must end the bus pass clawback and ensure our province offers the kind of supports that will allow people with disabilities in B.C. to be full participants our communities.”
