A widely predicted snowfall has been slow to arrive in Metro Vancouver.

But by 6:30 a.m. on Friday (December 9), white flakes began falling in parts of Metro Vancouver.

Up to 20 centimetres are expected by the end of the day, with some of the heaviest snow falling during the morning commute.

Meanwhile, the City of Vancouer has more than 40 trucks on the roads putting down salt and brine.

The city's general manager of engineering services, Jerry Dobrovolny, will provide an update for the media at 10 a.m. at Vancouver City Hall.

The storm first passed over Vancouver Island, resulting in the closure of all schools in Comox.

In Burnaby, St. Thomas More Collegiate has posted a notice on its website saying it will not be open today.

So far, the transit system is running smoothly with the exception of the West Coast Express, which is facing delays because of a freight train on the tracks.
