Union Gospel Mission feeds thousands an early Christmas dinner in Vancouver

      A 76-year-old Vancouver Christian charity has once again hosted a feast for thousands.

      The Union Gospel Mission held its annual free Christmas dinner today at its main location at 601 East Hastings Street.

      Food was also served at the UGM's families centre (616 Cordova Street) and at its New Westminster branch (658 Clarkson Street).

      In anticipation of the crowds, the organization prepared:

      • 2500 lbs. of turkey
      • 800 lbs. of mashed potatoes
      • 700 lbs. of vegetables
      • 800 lbs. of stuffing
      • 300 litres of gravy
      • 260 litres of cranberry sauce
      • 3900 dinner rolls (375 dozen)
      • 600 cherry pies
      • 400 litres of ice cream
