The City of Vancouver has delivered a Christmas present for homeowners burdened with too much trash after winter snowstorms.

There will be no fees imposed on residents who put out extra garbage bags for collection.

In addition, Vancouver residents with valid identification can take household refuse to the Vancouver South Transfer Station at no cost on Saturday (December 24), Monday (December 26), and Tuesday (December 27).

This freebie is not available to those with commercial loads, nor does it apply to mattresses, furniture, and other things not included in regular garbage collection.

"The recent atypical winter weather has resulted in city-wide delays for City garbage and green bin collection," the city said in a news release. "MMBC’s curbside recycling contractor, Smithrite, is also experiencing weather-related collection delays.
