Metro Vancouver buses, SkyTrain, and SeaBus will be free again on New Year's Eve

      For the 41st time, passengers won't have to pay fares on the Lower Mainland transit system on New Year's Eve.

      TransLink advises customers not to tap their Compass cards between 5 p.m. on (Saturday) December 31 until 5 a.m. on Sunday (January 1).

      During those hours, fare gates will remain open at SkyTrain stations.

      However, TransLink is requiring customers to tap out their Compass cards should they board the system before 5 p.m. on Saturday.

      This year, there's 24-hour service on the N9 bus that runs between Lougheed and Coquitlam Central stations after the Evergreen Line closes.

      SeaBus and SkyTrain service will be extended by an hour on New Year's Eve.

      The final SeaBus will leave Lonsdale Quay at 2:02 a.m. and will depart Waterfront Station at 2:22 a.m.

      The final Expo Line will leave King George Station at 1:34 a.m. and will head out from Waterfront Station to King George Station at 2:20 a.m.

      The train from Production Way–University Station to Waterfront Station will leave at 1:26 a.m.; the train leaving Waterfront Station to Production Way–University will depart at 2:16 a.m.

      The last Canada Line train headed from Richmond-Brighouse Station to Waterfront Station will leave at 1:55 a.m.; the final Canada Line train leaving Waterfront Station to Richmond-Brighouse will depart at 1:55 a.m.

      Airport workers and airline passengers and employees can catch the last New Year's Eve train from YVR to Waterfront Station at 1:57, with the final train going in the opposite direction leaving at 2:15 a.m.
