Great news, ladies: Mount Seymour is once again offering women ski and snowboard passes for only $10.

With its Shred for the Cause initiative, the fairer sex are invited to head up the mountain on Monday nights between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. to enjoy the 40 hectares of terrain lit for night skiing.

Mount Seymour boasts both gentle slopes for beginners and advanced runs for pro riders with contoured gullies, tree runs, and four terrain parks. Apportioning 40 per cent of its groomed runs for novices, 40 per cent for intermediate riders, and 20 per cent for advanced or expert skiers and snowboarders, Seymour offers plenty of trails for all levels of experience.

For each woman’s $10 lift ticket, half will go towards supporting a local, community-based charity called the Bloom Group. Providing a number of social services in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside for over 50 years, the charity provides housing, health, and other important methods of care to the city’s most vulnerable.

The Bloom Group also specializes in support for women in crisis, and individuals whose lives are complicated by the demands of motherhood, or mental health, addiction, abuse, and other challenges. Offering low-barrier shelters to women and their children, locations such as Springhouse provide respite from homelessness or violence, and allow mothers to stay with their family.

Although $5 will automatically be donated, women can contribute more to the Bloom Group if they wish.

Men are also welcome to enjoy their Monday nights on the slopes. Lift tickets from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. will be $33, and it is also possible for men to donate to the cause.

Unlike last season, it won’t be necessary to pick up vouchers in advance for the $10 sessions at retail outlets. Tickets will be sold at the ticket booths at guest services, and ticket and rental packages will be sold in the Alpine Activity Centre.

Shred for the Cause begins on Monday January 23, and runs every Monday night from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. during the 2017 season. Further details are available here.
