B.C. government spent $613,000 on 2016 Royal Tour for Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

      Today (January 12), the B.C. government released details about the costs involved in the 2016 Royal Tour when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and their children, visited the province on their official second tour of Canada.

      Prince William and Duchess Kate visited Victoria, Vancouver, Kelowna, Bella Bella, and Haida Gwaii from September 24 to October 1.

      In a cost-sharing agreement with the federal government, B.C.'s share of expenses for the tour totalled $613,363.93. That amount includes the costs of site reconnaissance at each location ($10,899.09), rehearsal ($55,628.81), media reconnaissance ( $17,827.95), accommodation, and tour.

      Administrative services cost $102,260.18,

      Transportation for the Royals, their household, and staff cost $27,589.89 while their accommodations cost $41,798.65.

      They visited Victoria's Parliament Buildings, DTES pregnancy outreach program Sheway, and the Great Bear Rainforest.

      B.C. premier Christy Clark joined the Duke and Duchess for all of their public appearances, with the exception of Haida Gwaii while Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accompanied them for the two first days of their tour.
