After elected Vancouver park board commissioners were unable to reach a consensus last night, staff have offered another overnight resting place for the homeless.

The West End Community Centre will be reopened for those seeking to escape the cold.

Last night, there was a 3-3 tie vote at a special park board meeting held to discuss former chair Sarah Kirby-Yung's motion to close park board facilities to overnight visitors.

A tie vote meant that the NPA commissioner's motion was defeated.

"I am pleased staff have decided to reopen the West End on another night of zero temperatures in Vancouver," park board chair and Green commissioner Michael Wiebe said in a news release.

The park board announcement did not make any mention of Sunset Community Centre, which has been opened in the past to the homeless.

Earlier this week, the city and park board closed the warming centre at Creekside Community Centre.
