Antiracist activists are planning a protest against messengers of hate in New Westminster.

Coalition Against Bigotry organizer Imtiaz Popat has announced in a news release that a demonstration will be held on Sunday (January 29) in the Royal City.

It will take place at 1 p.m. at 8th Street and Columbia Street across from New Westminster Station.

It's in response to media reports of neo-Nazi posters appearing at a bus stop at 6th Avenue and 4th Street over the weekend.

"They have now crossed the Fraser River," Popat said.

He was referring to Ku Klux Klan literature being distributed recently in Abbotsford and Chilliwack, as well as anti-Chinese posters being delivered to people's homes in Richmond.

In 2010, an antifascist rally in New Westminster attracted around 200 people. It was organized after reports that neo-Nazis were planning to meet at Braid Station.
