The Vancouver Canucks already had an infintesimal chance of making it into the postseason before yesterday's decision to ship forward Alex Burrows to the Ottawa Senators.

Now, another veteran forward is gone, dooming any chance of the team making the playoffs.

Speedy Dane Jannik Hansen has been shipped to the San Jose Sharks for left winger Nikolay Goldobin and a conditional fourth round draft choice later this year.

"Nikolay is a gifted offensive player with good hands and good release on his shot," general manager Jim Benning said in a news release. "His play away from the puck has improved this year in the American League and we believe with his skillset and continued development, he has the ability to become a valuable member of our team."

Hansen joined the Canucks in the 2007-08 season and played all 565 regular-season games in his career in a Vancouver jersey.

He scored 105 goals and posted 130 assists while often shining as a penalty killer. This season has been marred by injuries, which have kept his points production down.

The deal occurred as the Canucks were on the ice against the Detroit Wed Wings.
