Canucks collapse as nemesis Brad Marchand pots hat trick in third period

If you ask enough long-time Canucks fans which NHL player they dislike the most, invariably the name Brad Marchand will come up.

Straight music editor Mike Usinger has likened Marchand's looks to a Norwegian rat, calling him "one of the biggest pukes this side of Matt Cooke".

In 2012, Marchand clipped beloved Vancouver defenceman Samil Salo from behind, giving the injury-prone Finn "concussion symptoms".

During the Stanley Cup final in the previous year, Marchand repeatedly punched star forward Daniel Sedin in front of the net.

The failure of other Canucks to come to Sedin's defence demoralized fans. Adding salt in the wound was referee Kelly Sutherland's decision to give Sedin a 10-minute misconduct after he complained that Marchand wasn't given a penalty.

All of this may have contributed to the team's sorry performance in a couple of days later in Game 7 when the Bruins won the Stanley Cup at Rogers Arena.

Brad Marchand punched Daniel Sedin a few times in front of the net in the Stanley Cup final.

Last night, Marchand once again proved that he's a major irritation to the Canucks and their fans.

He scored a hat trick in the third period, leading the Bruins to a come-from-behind 6-3 victory.

His final goal into an empty net was his 35th of the season, tying him with Sidney Crosby for the league lead.

(Thankfully, Usinger was on vacation and didn't have to witness it.)
