Get spoked for the first Bike Rave of 2017

For many, partying is synonymous with drink, drugs, and copious lapses in judgement. For Party4Health—the organizers behind the first Bike Rave of the season—it’s a much better choice to get “high on life”.

Bike Raves are a popular staple in the Vancouver underground calendar, with one or two events popping up each year. Lit by glowsticks, neon inner-tubes, and fairy lights, cyclists—who have previously numbered in the thousands—take to the streets at dusk on an urban adventure down the city’s numerous bike paths.

With past Bike Raves reaching uncontrollable numbers—2015 saw 7,000 attendees at one event—a collection of smaller nights have been gaining traction in the city. Party4Health, a local non-profit organization that focuses on sober partying and good, clean fun, has taken up the mantle with nearly 2,000 Vancouverites already noting their interest on the event’s Facebook page. Promoting social, physical, and community wellbeing, Party4Health’s take on the Bike Rave is slated to be a family-friendly and environmentally-conscious evening.

Unlike previous rides, which have put the emphasis on individuals cycling alongside mobile DJs, the event is billed as  having a “dance party” focus, with regular breaks scheduled for partygoers to—as James Brown would put it—jump off their seats and get down to the beat.

Costumes aren’t mandatory but are recommended, and individuals aren’t required to bring anything but their bike. And, like all great flash-mob events, participation is free.

The Party4Health Bike Rave is on April 29 at 8 p.m. Route details and the start location will be released in the near future. More information can be found here.
