The Vancouver Police Department announced on May 4 that they have arrested a man they believe to be responsible for a series of sexual assaults in East Vancouver.

On April 26, a man approached a woman from behind at Monmouth Avenue and Joyce Street and asked her not to move. She ran away and called police.

When a second woman was entering an apartment building near Joyce Street and Vanness Avenue, she was grabbed from behind by a stranger. When she screamed, he ran off.

A third woman was grabbed from behind on East 46th Avenue near Doman Street. She was pulled into bushes at an unoccupied  house and sexual assaulted.

After the assaults, the police issued a warning on April 26 and asked the public for any information.

Bilali Miyonkuru, a 19-year-old Richmond resident, was arrested and charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm and robbery. He is in custody.

Anyone with any further information about this case is asked to call investigators at 604-717-3720 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Meanwhile, on April 27, the VPD announced that 46-year-old Joseph Davis was arrested for breaching conditions of his longterm supervision order by failing to report to his halfway house in Vancouver. He was believed to have left the Lower Mainland and was possibly heading toward Manitoba.

After the VPD issued an alert on April 25 about a Canada-wide warrant for Davis, a citizen in Langenburg, Saskatchewan, saw Davis' grey Mercedes and contacted police.

RCMP from the Esterhazy/Langenburg detachment arrested Davis in Saskatchewan around 2:30 p.m. PT on April 27.
