Alice Cooper famously sang "school's out for the summer."

And part of a major thoroughfare to the province's largest school, the University of British Columbia's Point Grey campus, will also be shut down for the summer.

That's because the City of Vancouver will resume construction on the Southwest Marine Drive upgrades to sewer and road infrastructure.

From Monday (May 8) until Labour Day, a "full road closure" will be in place on Southwest Marine Drive from Granville to Camosun Street, according to a city news release.

Local traffic will still be permitted on the street.

However, through-traffic will be rerouted locally and truck traffic will have to travel on West 41st Avenue.

"The work will help increase the capacity of SW Marine Drive as part of the Major Road Network, upgrade sewer main infrastructure, and enhance the safety of people driving, walking, and cycling," the city stated.
