The 2017 provincial election is shaping up to be a rough evening for first-time candidates who campaigned for the B.C. Liberals.

For most of them, winning was always an uphill battle. But it's a young and diverse group and so would have added some fresh blood to the legislature.

The list of Liberal rookies who won't be winning tonight includes Trang Nguyen for Vancouver-Kingsway, Jane Spitz for Vancouver-Hastings, Nigel Elliot for Vancouver-West End, and Conny Lin for Vancouver-Mount Pleasant.

Those four were all put up against very safe bets for the NDP: respectively, Adrian Dix, Shane Simpson, Spencer Chandra Herbert, and Melanie Mark.

There are also a pair of First Nations candidates who don't look like they'll be taking MLA positions with the Liberals tonight. Those are Wanda Good for Stikine and Dallas William Smith for North Island.

However, Ellis Ross, a third First Nations candidate for the Liberals,  has won Skeena from the NDP's Bruce Alan Bidgood.
