A mild earthquake struck Vancouver Island this morning (June 19).

The quake occurred at 10:22 a.m. about 41 kilometres west of Gold River (107 kilometres away from Campbell River) at a depth of 39 kilometres. Earthquakes Canada is reporting it as a 4.0-magnitude quake while the U.S. Geological Survey measured it as 4.3-magnitude.

The quake was lightly felt in central Vancouver Island. No tsunami was expected and no damage was reported.

This is the third earthquake to occur on the island over the past two weeks.

On June 15, a 3.6-magnitude earthquake on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state was felt in Victoria and Sidney on Vancouver Island. No damage was reported.

Before that, a 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck off Vancouver Island's northern tip, about 162 kilometres west of Port Hardy, on June 10.
