There will be no jail time for a 57-year-old man who went on a rampage at a New Westminster SkyTrain station.

Clayton Morris Lambert pleaded guilty to mischief and has been sentenced to a year of conditional probation.

On Monday (June 19), he caused a reported $300,000 in damage to TransLink equipment at Columbia Station.

He was on the tracks, disrupting transit service, and police thought he was suicidal.

However, it turned out that he was high on crystal meth at the time of the offence, according to police.

Meanwhile in other Transit Police news, a 56-year-old man was arrested after allegedly "threatening and harassing a woman travelling on a Coast Mountain Bus Company Bus with her baby, and for threatening other passengers".

The incident occurred on May 31 after the woman hopped on a transit vehicle at Davie and Bute streets. Her 16-month-old was in a stroller.

"Several minutes later a man boarded the bus at Davie Street and Thurlow Street and stood beside the stroller," Transit Police stated in a news release. "He began focussing on the baby, leaning over it and allegedly pushing repeatedly on the release button of the harness. When the mother asked him to stop, he allegedly became verbally abusive, yelling and swearing at her."

When another passenger intervened, the suspect allegedly said he would break his nose. The man also allegedly lunged at the woman and the baby to prevent her from leaving the bus.

"Several passengers grabbed the suspect and held him back until he broke free and left the bus at Granville Street and Davie Street," the news release stated. "As he remained outside the bus yelling, passengers advised the mother to stay on the bus until he had left. She was eventually able to get off the bus safely."

Arthur Emile Cherpak has been charged with uttering threats, assault and criminal harassment. He remains in custody.
