Vancouver police and fire officers descended at the southeast corner of Broadway and Pine Street after a suspicious package was delivered to a business.

The hazardous materials (hazmat) response team of the Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services also attended the scene Monday (June 26).

“We arrived to find a package of a suspicious nature that fortunately had not been opened and presented no dangers to the public,” Captain Jonathan Gormick of the fire department said.

Gormick said that the package was turned over to the police for lab testing.

Fire officials were asked by the police to assist in retrieving the package at around 11 a.m.

Gormick had this to say for the public: “If at any time someone receives a package that seems suspicious in any way - it’s not properly addressed, it’s leaking, it doesn’t feel like something they should receive, or they opened it and find something of which they’re not sure – they’re encouraged to call the Vancouver police on their non-emergency line.”
