Ramp collapses at Pajo's on the Wharf in Steveston

      Dozens of patrons were trapped for a while on a floating restaurant in Richmond after the dockside ramp buckled.

      There were approximately 15 people on the walkway toward Pajo's on the Wharf in Steveston (at 12351 3rd Avenue) when it collapsed.

      Emergency officials were on the scene quickly this afternoon to deal with the situation.

      One person was taken to hospital.

      Tonight, Pajo's posted a notice on its Facebook page saying its Steveston location will be closed until futher notice.

      "To our loyal guests: We are currently working with local authorities to figure out the cause of this incident," it stated.

      Pajo's operates five locations in the Lower Mainland. Three are in Richmond, which includes the Steveston location, another at Garry Point Park, and one at the Vancouver International Airport. The other two locations are in Port Moody and Port Coquitlam.

      The chainlet began at the Steveston location as a fish-and-chips stand in 1985.
