B.C. government kills Telus deal to rename B.C Place Stadium
The B.C. Liberal government has confirmed it has scuttled a reported $40-million deal that would have seen Telus purchase the naming rights for B.C. Place Stadium.
Jobs, Tourism and Innovation Minister Pat Bell issued a statement today (March 7).
"Government decided not to approve a naming rights agreement for BC Place following extensive discussions between the BC Pavilion Corporation and TELUS. This decision was made after determining that the proposed agreement did not provide best value for taxpayers. We also believe British Columbians have a strong attachment to the BC Place name," Bell stated.
"PavCo will negotiate a technology agreement with TELUS for the equipment that has been installed in BC Place. The revitalized stadium provides visitors with some of the most advanced technology in any stadium in North America and helps to create a truly unique experience for guests when they attend events at BC Place."
