The B.C. Liberal Party says its candidates in the ridings of Surrey-White Rock, Chilliwack, and Chilliwack-Hope will be nominated without a fight.

MLA Gordon Hogg, former Stephen Harper advisor Laurie Throness, and ex-B.C. Conservative candidate John Martin will be acclaimed as the nominees for those ridings, the party announced today (October 23).

Hogg, a former B.C. minister of children and family development, is set to have his candidacy confirmed this evening.

Throness and Martin actually ran against each other in the Chilliwack-Hope by-election in April, both losing to the NDP's Gwen O'Mahony. They'll be officially nominated at a joint candidate selection meeting on October 24.

Martin jumped ship from the B.C. Conservatives in September.

“What we learned from the by-election was that when the free enterprise option is split, the NDP win,” Martin said in a news release. “That is why I’m so happy to be working with Laurie Throness here in Chilliwack and running for the BC Liberals.”

Ahead of the April by-election, Martin penned an opinion piece for the Georgia Straight website that was less-than-complimentary toward the B.C. Liberal government.

"The Liberal government has failed the people of British Columbia and has squandered trust with the public on issues such paying $6 million in legal fees for two convicted criminals (Basi and Virk) and the introduction of the HST shortly after the last election when they said it was not on the table," Martin wrote at the time.
