Full coverage

In a news release today (March 25), Attorney General Barry Penner announced that the vote will be held under the Referendum Act, rather than the Recall and Initiative Act.

"Under the Referendum Act, we will pose the question that was developed last fall by the acting chief electoral officer, with a binding outcome at a simple majority threshold," Penner said in the release.

The referendum question will remain the following: "Are you in favour of extinguishing the HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) and reinstating the PST (Provincial Sales Tax) in conjunction with the GST (Goods and Services Tax)? Yes/No."

I still wonder... will we have previously exempt items exempt once again? The wording has always avoided that (the biggest issue). The second issue with the HST is the federal government collecting provincial taxes which it doesn't have the authority to do... so now they're "federal taxes" and they "give us" the money... could always decide to give us less if they wanted to.
