In a game that meant absolutely nothing in the standings or to the playoff picture, the B.C. Lions defeated Saskatchewan 17-6 at B.C. Place on Saturday night. It was the final game for the Lions on their 2012 regular season schedule and left them with a league-best record of 13-5.
The victory was the team's eighth in nine home games this season and including last year's playoffs, the Lions are now 14-1 since returning downtown after their short stay at Empire Field while B.C. Place was being renovated.
Starting quarterback Travis Lulay returned to action after a two-week layoff to nurse a nagging shoulder injury. The team's nominee for the CFL's oustanding player award played part of the first half to shake off some rust before watching the remainder of the game from the bench to ensure his health for the post-season.
The Lions' season was dominated by stellar defensive play. In a league known for its high-scoring offenses, the Lions defence held 10 of 18 opponents to fewer than 20 points.
In Saskatchewan's two visits to Vancouver this season, the Riders scored a total of 11 points.
B.C. will now sit and watch as Saskatchewan travels to Calgary for the West Division semifinal next Sunday. The Lions will host the winner in the Western Final at 1:30 p.m. on November 18.
