Deadly crash marks Vancouver’s 10th traffic fatality of 2012, police say
The death of a senior in a two-vehicle crash is Vancouver’s 10th traffic fatality of the year, police say.
At around 11:30 a.m. today (August 1), a car was struck by a minivan as it entered the intersection of Knight Street and East 20th Avenue, police said in a news release.
The passenger of the car, a 62-year-old woman, was taken to hospital but died from her injuries.
Police have not released the identity of the deceased as efforts are being made to notify next of kin.
The driver of the car was also taken to hospital, but the police did not include any details about that person’s condition in the release.
Meanwhile, the female driver of the minivan and her two children were released after being checked at the scene by paramedics.
According to police, there had been 13 traffic-related deaths in Vancouver by this time in 2011 and seven by this time in 2010.
An investigation into the cause of today’s deadly crash is under way.
