A pair of Delta municipal councillors are set to duke it out in the May provincial election.

Scott Hamilton, a four-term Delta councillor, will be acclaimed as the B.C. Liberals' candidate in Delta North on Saturday (January 5).

His one-term council colleague, Sylvia Bishop, was nominated by the B.C. NDP in December.

“No single issue is more important to British Columbians than our economy,” Hamilton said today (January 2) in a party news release. “The next election is about protecting and growing our economy with Premier Christy Clark and the BC Liberals, or going backwards under the NDP.”

NDP MLA Guy Gentner, who currently represents the riding in Victoria, is not seeking re-election.

To Bob Reinquist - WRONG. Check your facts ...

According to the <a href="http://www.canada.com/news/Sylvia+Bishop+acclaimed+candidate/7593467/sto... target="_blank">Delta Optimist, the reason Sylvia Bishop was acclaimed was that no one else sought the nomination:

She decided to put her name forward to be the NDP candidate for Delta North after current NDP MLA Guy Gentner announced his retirement earlier this fall.

The deadline for filing for the nomination was last Tuesday. No other candidates came forward.

(I'll leave out personal musings re: righties shooting from various body parts).
