Extra station planned for Evergreen Line in Coquitlam

Comments

An extra station will be added to the planned Evergreen Line SkyTrain link as part of a public-private partnership, the federal government and the City of Coquitlam have announced.

Lincoln Station is to be built on the $1.4-billion transit route in Coquitlam between Coquitlam Central Station and Douglas College Station.

The City of Coquitlam and the private real estate company Pensionfund Realty Limited will fund the new station, said a July 19 news release. The station is to have a private operator, who has not yet been selected.

Government officials said the Lincoln Station project will improve access to the rapid-transit system, stimulate residential development, and boost the economy.

The Evergreen Line is expected to be up and running in summer 2016.

I find this to be more pandering to the developer class. A station simply for the purpose of jacking up condo prices. Two stations so close on a line that see's miles between stations.

The priority should be getting the Evergreen Line to Port Coquitlam and beyond, not another station for Coquitlam Center.

This is actually a bad thing. Another station only a few blocks from one will slow down the trip for everyone. Just so a developer can increase their prices to say their building is right on the train station.

There's no P3 yet for the Evergreen Line; in other words, a primary contractor has not been selected. What makes you so sure that it will be up and running by the summer of 2016? Is there still a funding shortfall after the gasoline surchage and extra property taxes? We'll soon find out. Translink and the province are really quiet on this front.

At Lincoln? Seriously? I thought this was supposed to be "rapid transit" not another bus route, especially at the expense. Lincoln is a brisk 5 minute walk, or an extremely quick bus ride from Douglas.
And we wonder why Vancouver is listed by a recent study as the most expensive city to live in after Hong Kong...

How about dropping the cost in half and adding another 10 stations by going with LRT, instead?
