The Grouse Grind has been closed because of snow and ice on the top portion of the popular hiking trail.

"Lower than expected freezing levels and storm cells have delivered significantly more snow than forecasted to the upper sections of the Grouse Grind," an update issued on Sunday (October 21) by Metro Vancouver says. "Compact snow and ice is now present on the trail creating unsafe conditions."

Metro Vancouver, which owns the Grind, says it will assess the status of the trail early next week.
