The Hastings All-Stars went down to an 8-3 defeat to Panama at the Little League World Series today (August 19).

The loss drops the Canadian champs to the losers' bracket on Monday (August 20) against the Caribbean team.

The Hastings All-Stars fared much better in the August 17 Little League World Series opener, defeating the Mexican team 13-9.

Today, the Panamanians received a boost in the second inning when shortstop James Gonzalez hit a grand slam—the second homer of the frame—leaving the Vancouver squad behind 6-0.

Gonzalez hit another one out of the park in the fourth inning.

The Canadians scored one run in each of the last three innings, but it wasn't nearly enough.

The Panamanians had 12 hits, compared to just three for the Hastings team. The two Panamian pitchers, Edisson Gonzalez and Daniel Cruz, struck out 13 batters on their way to a convincing victory.
