Indian gang rape victim dies in Singapore hospital

The woman known as "Amanat" in the Indian media has died in Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.

The 23-year-old student was gang-raped on a New Delhi bus nearly two weeks ago, sparking riots and demonstrations across India.

Jaya Bachchan, the wife of Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan, raised the case in the Indian parliament, where she's an elected representative.

      Six men are facing charges.

In the past 24 hours, the hospital revealed that the woman had taken a turn for the worse, possibly indicating severe organ failure.

The death of Amanat (not her real name) comes shortly after a 17-year-old girl committed suicide after being gang-raped in Patiala, India.

The men who committed this vicious attack and any others like them should be castrated at the very least. The stupidity of the Indian people in general who are selectively aborting female children because boy children are preferred (apparently ?) have brought this horrible situation upon themselves because there are now not enough females . I see no hope until this stupid imbalance is resolved.

Your "reason" for why this crime happened is patently absurd.

Dave L.'s reason implies that men in general have no control over themselvs.these men chose to comit a crime and therefor should be punished.

This is a tragic Crime of opportunity by Evil Men who deserve Capital punishment.

Women are not only Victims in India where there are too far too many attacks on Women to blame just Psychotic Killers ( a thank fully very small part of any population).

In Canada the Pickton killings of 30+ Women & Highway of tears which seems of be numbering 100+ needs to be stopped by the full force of the Law & Government even if a Billion Dollars needs to be spent effectively policing that Highway from predators.

Lets not forget that in Canada and elsewhere we unfortunately have our share of Monsters who have killed far more Women, Bernado, Homolka, Pickton & Williams to name but a few.

end discrimination against women on earth

it has been reported that these men raped with the intention to kill. therefore, they are rapists and murders and should face the death penalty if convicted.
these atrocious acts of violence towards women must end, no matter where they occur around the globe.

vancouver lower mainland is familiar with the pickton murders of sex trade worders and the number of missing women hasn't been accounted for yet.
i agree with Ujjal Dosanjh. if a man cannot control his penis he should not have one and in this regard i support automatic surgical castration in any case where any man has commited violent acts towards women any where in the world today. there is too much emphasis made about glorifying a man's penis. do these men not realize that they would not exist without women? do these men forget that every man is born out of a woman's womb? these senseless violent acts towards women must end now.

it is not acceptable to say that it is india's problem not ours. just because you don't see it or hear it doesn't disqualify the act of violence.

women everywhere in the world today need to know they have value and worth that is independent and separate from men.

out of the ten reasons why India has a sexual violence problem, low status of women is the biggest to overcome.
      1. Few Female Police.
      2. Not Enough Police in General.
      3. Blaming Provocative Clothing.
      4. Acceptance of Domestic Violence.
      5. A Lack of Public Safety.
      6. Stigmatizing the Victim.
      7. Encouraging Rape Victims to Compromise.
      8. A Sluggish Court System.
      9. Few Convictions.
      10. Low Status of Women.

Perhaps the biggest issue, though, is women’s overall lower status in Indian society. For poor families, the need to pay a marriage dowry can make daughters a burden. India has one of the lowest female-to-male population ratios in the world because of sex-selective abortion and female infanticide. Throughout their lives, sons are fed better than their sisters, are more likely to be sent to school and have brighter career prospects. In recent days, Indian politicians have put forward a slew of potential remedies for India’s sexual violence problem. But it’s worth noting that it will be hard to end discrimination against women at police stations when it starts in the crib.
