Former Port Moody mayor Joe Trasolini appears as though he`s on his way to the legislature.

With 98 of 132 ballot boxes counted, Trasolini, an NDP candidate, has 52.64 percent of the votes in the Port Moody-Coquitlam by-election. B.C. Liberal Dennis Marsden is in second place with 30.77 percent.

In Chilliwack-Hope, New Democrat Gwen O`Mahony is leading with 42.73 percent after 75 of 126 ballot boxes were counted.

B.C. Liberal Laurie Throness is in second place with 30.79 percent in Chilliwack-Hope.

B.C. Conservative candidates Christine Clark and John Martin are running third in Port Moody-Coquitlam and Chilliwack-Hope, respectively.

Port Moody-Coquitlam was previously held by former B.C. Liberal cabinet minister Iain Black. Another former B.C. Liberal cabinet minister, Barry Penner, represented Chilliwack-Hope. Both resigned after Christy Clark was elected B.C. Liberal leader.

With 54% of the vote the NDP in Port Moody Coquitlam didn't need Joe Trasolini. The NDP should have stuck with their principals and stayed with Shannon Watkins who got 40% in the last provincial election. Now they are stuck with an opportunistic whose going to demand a big pay-off. JVR
