John Martin: Why vote for the B.C. Conservatives in Chilliwack-Hope by-election?

    1 of 1 2 of 1

There are three themes that I am campaigning for in the upcoming Chilliwack-Hope by-election:

      1. Making life more affordable: We pay the highest gas taxes in Canada and on top of this, we pay a carbon tax that is scheduled to increase on July 1. The carbon tax is punitive to all economic activity and increases the cost of everything in the province. A vote for the B.C. Conservatives is a vote to scrap the carbon tax.

      2. Protecting air quality: The Liberal government opened the door to burning garbage by approving a Metro Vancouver plan that will allow garbage incineration. The science says that this will put many noxious chemicals, including mercury, into the air we breathe. The mercury emissions will be like building a coal-burning power plant in the region and this will especially affect air quality in the Fraser Valley. A vote for the B.C. Conservatives is a vote to shut the door on the Liberal garbage incinerator.

      3. Keeping your community safe: Over the past decade, the Liberal government has created a “catch and release” justice system. Courts have been shut down, retiring judges have not been replaced, and criminal case backlogs have grown so high that prosecutions are being dropped due to the lack of a timely trial. The courts need to be restored where we can prosecute accused criminals in a timely manner and keep convicted criminals off our streets. A vote for the B.C. Conservatives is a vote to restore funding to the justice system.

The Liberal government has failed the people of British Columbia and has squandered trust with the public on issues such as paying $6 million in legal fees for two convicted criminals (Basi and Virk) and the introduction of the HST shortly after the last election when they said it was not on the table. We also cannot go to the NDP, who turned B.C. into a “have-not” province in the 1990s.

The best way to hold Christy Clark and this Liberal government accountable is by voting for myself, John Martin, and the B.C. Conservatives. I look forward to your support on April 19.

John Martin is the B.C. Conservative candidate for the Chilliwack-Hope by-election on April 19.

John, I do not completely agree with your statement that Basi & Virk are criminals. They are more "fall guys" in the corrupt sale of BC Rail in which Christy Clark played a very important role.
The $6 million paid for their legal fees was purely "hush money" to keep Collins and others off of the witness stand.
Once the Auditor General is finished his review I am confident that the "real bad guys/gals" will be identified, the current BC Liberal party will be decimated and Dave Basi and Bobby Virk will be vindicated.

Vote for you and we'll get the same that is in Ottawa which I think is worse than Christy. Just look at the B/S that is going on there. It's one thing after another and you've got a leader who was well taught back there before he came back to B.C. with his gold plated pension.

The best way to restore the usefulness of the justice system is to get rid of the fake socialist crimes like possession of drugs, driving without a seatbelt, money laundering, tax avoidance, etc. etc. Then we'd have tons of judges/lawyers/prison cells for the real common law criminals. Unfortunately, we'd have to imprison every police officer who ever robbed anyone of his drugs...but, you know, that's a risk I think we need to take. Can we have criminals robbing us forever?

Mr. Martin, the conversion of the state into an organized crime syndicate (if it ever was anything else) is far more important "justice" issue than anything you've mentioned.

Blah blah blah ... the same major selling proposition as any other new political party, "Vote for us, we haven't phuked up yet".

Yo Jack, You really think money laundering and tax avoidance aren't real crimes, Get a grip man. I'm sure you have no problem letting people who continuously break the law and assault other people to go free because they had a tough upbringing. People like you are the reason the conservatives keep growing in the polls. Nothing wrong with helping those who truly need help, but it's wrong to allow people to avoid the consequences of their actions when the victims have no chance of avoiding the consequences of someone's else's actions.
Otherwise, I've never really understood this carbon tax thing. You pay somebody some money to allow you to pollute extra??? Sounds like a tax scheme with no reasoning. Oh wait, this is Canada. Our whole policy is built on mindless taxes instead of balancing a budget - regardless of party.
