Large aftershocks follow earthquake in Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands)

The U.S. Geological Survey has reported more aftershocks near Haida Gwaii of the northwest coast of British Columbia.

Today, one measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale struck 159 kilometres southwest of Masset. Seven minutes later, another aftershock measuring 5.4 was located 151 kilometres south of the same town.

The most recent measured 5.0 in the same location as the one measuring 6.3. There was also one measuring 5.5 190 kilometres south of Masset, and another one measuring 5.1, which was 166 kilometres south of Masset.

There have been no tsunami warnings issued in connection with the seismic activity today. Yesterday's earthquake measuring 7.7 caused tens of thousands of people to flee to higher ground in B.C., Alaska, and Hawaii.
