Diane Thorne, the NDP MLA for Coquitlam-Maillardville, has decided not to run for reelection in 2013.

Thorne was first elected to the legislature in 2005. She was reelected in 2009.

A former Coquitlam councillor, Thorne currently serves as deputy Opposition critic for education.

In a statement today (September 17), New Democrat Leader Adrian Dix thanked Thorne for her years of public service.

"A passionate advocate for social services and for improving people's lives in tangible ways, Diane has been effective in making the case that these investments enrich the life and health of the entire community," Dix said.

"Her colleagues at the caucus table, like her constituents, will also miss her warmth and good humour."
