One of the centre-left’s most capable backroom strategists told the Straight by phone on June 20 that he’s close to deciding whether or not he will seek a B.C. NDP nomination.

Neil Monckton’s move will determine the makeup of the nomination process to pick the New Democrat candidate for Vancouver–False Creek. Vision Vancouver park commissioner Constance Barnes has already declared her candidacy.

The Straight previously spoke to Monckton on March 16 about his plans.

“I’ve done a lot of work around civic issues, and I’m certainly very interested in the issues of housing affordability and transportation and democratic reforms,” Monckton said at the time. “People are urging me to run, and I’m thinking about it.”
