Neil Monckton won’t seek B.C. NDP nomination; Matt Toner enters Vancouver-False Creek race

Vision Vancouver park commissioner Constance Barnes should expect a race for the B.C. NDP nomination in Vancouver-False Creek.

But the competition will not come from Neil Monckton.

In a phone interview today (June 26), Monckton said that after months of considering running in next year’s provincial election, he has decided not to go for it.

“I just don’t have the time and the energy to put into it,” Monckton told the Straight.

According to Monckton, another candidate—Matt Toner—has stepped forward.

“We’re putting these options before members of [the B.C. NDP constituency association] in False Creek,” he said.

Monckton said that he’s not supporting anybody at this point. He’s the president of the party’s constituency association.
