New Jersey Devils win Game 5—suddenly, the Stanley Cup final gets interesting
New Jersey Devils veteran defenceman Bryce Salvador didn't score any goals during the regular season, but he managed to pocket the game winner tonight, pushing the Stanley Cup final series to a sixth game.
The Devils defeated the Los Angeles Kings 2-1, thanks to Salvador's shot from the point. It bounced off Kings defender Slava Voynov and into the net at 9:05 of the second period.
The Kings won the first three games of the series, but the Devils have come roaring back with two consecutive victories.
Zack Parise scored the first marker of the game for the Devils.
Los Angeles outshot New Jersey 25-17, but the Kings' only goal came on a screen shot by Justin Williams early in the second period.
Martin Brodeur, the 40-year-old New Jersey netminder, is now within two victories of winning his fourth Stanley Cup. The Kings, on the other hand, have never won hockey's premier prize in their 45 years in the league.
Game 6 is scheduled on Monday (June 11) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
