Park board's Sarah Blyth, Constance Barnes go on hunger strike
Two Vision Vancouver park board commissioners have taken over a hunger-strike relay for housing that’s now entering its eighth week.
Commissioner Sarah Blyth, who cofounded the Vancouver Skateboard Coalition, joins fellow rookie Constance Barnes in fasting for the week.
The pair took over yesterday (February 15) from B.C. Civil Liberties Association executive director David Eby.
Eby handed off the hunger strike to the commissioners at Emery Barnes Park, at Davie and Richards streets.
The park is named after the Constance Barnes’s father. Emery Barnes was a long-time MLA in Vancouver-Burrard and a Speaker of the legislature.
Others that have completed the strike so far are Michael Byers, Sarah Evans, Brent Granby, Dr. Marria Townsend, Jason Gratl, and Sister Elizabeth Kelleher.
