Rosie MacLennan wins first Canadian gold medal in women's trampoline
Trampoline star Rosie MacLennan has become the first Canadian athlete to win a gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics.
The University of Toronto grad defeated the defending Olympic women's trampoline champion, He Winna of China, whose miscue near the end of her routine dropped her to third place. China's Shanshan Huang won the silver medal.
MacLennan's friend and synchro teammate, Karen Cockburn, posted a fourth-place finish and didn't make it onto the podium. Cockburn was a medallist in the three previous Summer Games, winning bronze in Sydney and silver in Athens and Beijing.
MacLennan started young, competing internationally at the age of 11 and winning Canadian titles in 2005, 2009, and 2011.
Her first Olympic appearance came in the Beijing Games, where she finished seventh.
More recently, MacLennan won gold in the 2011 Pan American Games and came second in the world championships.
