Support indie bookstores, not big online retailers

I was pleased to read the article on bookstores [“ Bookstores look to thrive in uncertain times”, April 12-19]. I’ve been visiting Pulpfiction Books for many years in their locations on Main Street and West Broadway, and wish them well in their third location on Commercial Drive.

While I’m at it, may I put in a plug for a few other stand-alone bookstores: White Dwarf Books, a science fiction/fantasy and mystery bookstore on West 10th Avenue; ABC Book & Comic Emporium at Broadway and Granville; and Blackberry Books on Granville Island.

These and the few other independent bookstores in Vancouver add a lot to the cultural life of the city. I hope Vancouver readers continue to support them rather than Amazon.ca.
