Suzanne Anton seeks B.C. Liberal nomination in Vancouver-Quilchena

Suzanne Anton wants to be the next MLA for Vancouver-Quilchena.

The former Non-Partisan Association mayoral candidate announced this morning (October 15) that she will run for the B.C. Liberal nomination in the West Side constituency. The seat is currently held by former finance minister Colin Hansen, who is not seeking reelection in 2013.

"Having spent many years helping make our city a better place, I am excited to be able to focus on representing my own neighbourhood of Vancouver-Quilchena, where I brought up my three children and have lived for the last 21 years," Anton said in a news release.

Lawyer Andrew Wilkinson, a former president of the B.C. Liberal Party and a former deputy minister in the provincial government, is also seeking the nomination.

A former Crown prosecutor and park board commissioner, Anton has a law degree from the University of British Columbia and a mathematics degree from the University of Victoria.

Anton, who served on city council for six years before losing the 2011 mayoral contest to Vision Vancouver's Gregor Robertson, praised the B.C. Liberal government for its "prudent fiscal management".

"We’ve come through the 2008 recession better than most places in the world and the last thing I want to see is British Columbia sliding backwards and repeating the economic mistakes that turned us into a ‘have-not’ province in the ‘90s," Anton said in her release. "With the BC Liberals, our children, our community and our businesses can look forward to a bright future."

In an email to supporters, Anton noted that the B.C. Liberal riding association in Vancouver-Quilchena will select the party's candidate in the "new year".

The next provincial election is expected to take place on May 14, 2013.

It's interesting that Anton touts the "prudent fiscal management" of the BC Liberals while standing for election in the riding to be vacated by Colin Hansen ... co-architect of the most glaring example of fiscal mismanagement in BC history.

Whether you agree with the HST or not, there is no question that its implementation was completely screwed up, from Day One - by the two most senior people in the BC Liberal Government. If it had been handled properly - by prudent fiscal managers - it probably would have survived the referendum.

Is Ms Anton seeking to follow in the "able" footsteps of Hansen and Campbell?

Suzanne Anton is to Vancouver, what Rob Ford is to Toronto; a troglodyte who spent most of her mayoral campaign railing against bicycle lanes. The fool. As an NPA Councillor under Sam Sullivan - perhaps one of the worst mayors Vancouver has ever had - she is partly responsible for the financial fiasco of the Olympic Village. Today she spends her time stumping for Christy Clark and repeating her talking points like a robot.

I hope Vancouver-Quilchena has the good sense not to elect this faux Liberal who is much closer to being a Harper conservative.

It's disgusting that the Liberal Party is even allowed to use that moniker anymore. They're all a bunch of Socred hacks.

If she wins the nomination, she will probably win. Quilchena (and I happen to live in Quilchena) is probably the safest Liberal seat in the province. However, that means nothing in terms of whether the Liberals will win the election.
She has a rich husband so money is not an object and she can afford to sit in the opposition benches and hope that Dix screws up and she somehow becomes leader of the Liberals. However, while she has her good points, her voice is like fingernails on a blackboard and she has no chance of taking on that position. She will not be helped by the disastrous campaign for mayor that she ran iin 2011.

What kind of people post such filth & hatred...you don't even know the woman but you seem fully confident, informed and opinionated enough.... as u sit on ur couch stuffing your face... to make ignorant statements. I don't see that any of you have the balls to run for office, but I do see you hiding behind fake names & spewing out your... words of wisdom?? based on your superior knowledge & expertise???
      ...there are programs for that.
I hope she wins... she deserves to, she's been taking abuse from people like you for 9yrs (and will still make decisions that are in your best interest) - Congrats Suzanne!

From one sinking ship to another...

Oh I dunno, Mackenna. Rob Ford is in a class all his own.

I'm not sure whether Anton personally pushed the chicken suits and anti-bike lane rhetoric or was talked into it by "former bloggers", but she deservedly wore it at election time.

      Prudent fiscal management. Really ?

Well, look at it this way - she has jsut proven that she is either wholly incapable of reading the Province of BC Public Accounts on a regular basis, or she just doesnt care about being accurate as long as she tows the party line.

" I don't see that any of you have the balls to run for office, but I do see you hiding behind fake names & spewing out your... words of wisdom?? "

So I presume on your birth certificate it says "huh?"

Otherwise, you are just a hypocrite, castigating others for things that you do yourself.

So dont expect to be taken seriously.
