The Vancouver police have asked for help from Shaughnessy and South Granville residents to deal with a possible arsonist on the loose.

According to the VPD, there has been a "rash of fires and vandalism incidents" early in the morning over the past several months.

The latest was a fire in the early hours in the 2000 block of West 35th Avenue.

"Residents are asked to refrain from putting out their garbage and recycling until the morning of collection and to store it in a secure area," a VPD statement declares. "It is recommended that residents also check outdoor lights and sensors to ensure that they are in working order."

The VPD has asked anyone who sees anything suspicious to call 911. Anyone with information about previous fires can call the VPD arson squad at 604-717-2541 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
