New BC Sports Hall of Fame gallery celebrates Natives

You may not be aware, but last week Mayor Sam Sullivan declared May to be BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum month in Vancouver.

The BC Sports Hall of Fame, located inside B.C. Place Stadium, will next month open its newest gallery, which is dedicated exclusively to the history of First Nations sports in this province. Surprisingly, it’s the only one of its kind in Canada.

For a sneak preview of this attraction, come back to Straight.com on Thursday, or check out the printed May 15 edition of the Georgia Straight, available across the Lower Mainland.

Sullivan’s proclamation was made ahead of the 40th annual Banquet of Champions gala dinner and awards ceremony, which takes place on May 29 at the Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre. If you’ve got deep pockets, tickets at $275 are still available at www.banquetofchampions.com/.
